Train lovers and travelers concerned about their carbon footprint have a lot to choose from this year — especially in Europe. While some European governments are mulling short-haul flight bans, many passengers are already opting for rail, where new connections are numerous. Nightjet, part of the Austrian federal railway, ÖBB, started running a sleeper train between Berlin and Paris in December, while the French rail operator, S.N.C.F., started overnight service between Paris and Aurillac, in south-central France, the same month. And the Italian rail operator Trenitalia has recently started running a weekly high-speed connection between Rome and the station serving the Pompeii archaeological park. Other new European connections include a sleeper service between Brussels and Prague, coming in late March, and an overnight train between Brussels and Bratislava, Slovakia, expected late this year or early next.

The venture has faced legal challenges by Citadel Securities, whose European arm filed a case in London in June 2022. Portofino said in its initial response that Citadel's legal action was "unmeritorious, anticompetitive and a classic example of corporate bullying." AdvertisementAdvertisementIn January 2022 Griffin sold a $1.2 billion stake in Citadel Securities to venture capital firms Sequoia and Paradigm. "Further, their attempt to improperly poach Vincent Prieur, a New York-based employee described as the 'aggregator of all things crypto' at Citadel Securities, is undisputed. Prieur, who later joined Portofino, had also been the subject of legal action by Citadel Securities that was settled out of court, Bloomberg reported.

Sanchez and Bezos have been galavanting across Europe this summer aboard the Amazon founder's $500 million megayacht, and Sanchez has packed a variety of 'loud luxury' pieces. Instead of donning neutral color palettes and label-less attire, two crucial components of quiet luxury dressing, Sanchez's summer Yacht style has included an array of colorful and flashy ensembles that broadcast brand names. Another white dress she wore in Spain was entirely encrusted in pearls, writes the Daily Mail.

“Last-minute flight prices, especially international ones, are expensive,” says Katy Nastro of Going.com (formerly Scott’s Cheap Flights) about airfares from North American to Europe. “Their best value comes when cash prices are high, and there’s no time more expensive than last-minute summer travel,” Nastro says. That's how long it took three dads to drive across the country to raise money for their sons' rare genetic disease. The three men drove from New York to California, starting at the Red Ball Garage in NYC and ending at The Portofino Hotel & Marina in Redondo Beach. Along the way, they were able to raise $156,000 in donations to help fund research for SYNGAP1-related non-syndromic intellectual disability, more commonly referred to as SYNGAP1. All donations go to the SynGAP Research Fund, a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that raises money for the illness. "Inviting other SYNGAP dads who are also fundraising for the kids just made the most sense," Stelmaszek adds.
Some of the world's largest banks from Goldman Sachs to Morgan Stanley will cough up nearly $2 billion in penalties to the US regulators for failing to sufficiently monitor their employees' use of unauthorized messaging apps. At the heart of the matter here are bankers' use of communications platforms like Whatsapp or Signal. These are encrypted messaging apps that bankers regularly use to communicate with clients and even journalists. The largest US banks, boutiques, and European lenders were caught up in a probe around the use of unauthorized messaging apps. Whatsapp, for example, is a popular messaging app with bankers dealing with clients based outside the US.
